Basics

A 769-872 MHz Public Safety Bandpass Filter helps to reduce frequency-adjacent cellular interference and thus improves, in most cases, reception of public safety communications in the 700 and 800 MHz band.

The BPF-800 is an excellent bandpass filter at an amazingly low price compared to high-spec bandpass filters costing hundreds of dollars more. The filter is the size of a matchbox with a BNC female connector on the input end and a male BNC on the output end which can be connected directly to your scanner or multicoupler. It can be used on a portable or desktop scanner in between a rubber-duck or back-of-the-set antenna but it is particularly effective when used with an attic or roof-mounted antenna where excess cellular energy can overwhelm or distort reception.

In some instances cellular noise is just too intense at a location and the filter will not provide a benefit. But as we have tested the filter at sites all around the country with a spectrum analyzer we can see where adjacent cellular signals are significantly knocked down so that nearby public safety control channels and voice channels can be clearly received.

Note that there are instances when trying to receive trunked digital simulcast system that the correct solution is to use a Uniden-Bearcat SDS-100 or 200 model scanner, however. But the BPF-800-EN may be worth a try first.
