Excellent piece of equipment, replacing my PST 800.  Same setup
Don’t know if it’s better but it has a company behind it with support & firmware updates...

Purchased to replace Ws-1040.  Much better at multi-site trundling.  Easy to program.  Suggest pairing with Remontrix 800mhz antenna.  Time from order to ship, with three counties programmed, was only 3 days!  Excellent service.  Also called and has two questions answered.  Thanks much!

As a Professional Photographer for the NY Press / NYPPA.  It gives me the ability to remain in touch with what is going on in the field.  Which allows me to provide immediate media coverage of various incidents.

Loads of features with easy connectivity to Windows and EZ Scan software. Exceptional reception of distant stations and very good audio CODEC performance. The Scan-set and V-card features are outstanding. The best scanner Whistler has ever made.

5 of 5 TRX-1 Scanner December 26, 2016

This is the best scanner I've ever owned and I have been using scanners since the single crystal days.   It is easy to program on the scanner itself by either creating custom scan lists or using a zip code and selecting which scan lists and entities within to listen to.  Updating firmware, libraries and frequency database is a snap with the free EZ Scan software and Whister even notifies you by email when updates are available. The clarity of the sound and reception is fantastic, even in eastern TN.  Another advantage is the already enabled DRM that is included without having to pay for it.  DRM is widely used in my area.  And, with the upcoming promised free upgrade to NXDN, you just cannot beat this scanner.  Yes, there is a competing scanner from Uniden however, each product has differing advantages/disadvantages.  Scanner Master has a 30 day return policy so give it a try.  If you're inclined buy both.  I love mine.

4 of 5 TRX-1 quick review October 26, 2016
Reviewer: Johnnie Martinez from Velarde, NM United States
The TRX-1 is more sensitive than my BCD436HP and therefore performs much more effectively in my radio listening environment (rural, mountainous region).  Programming the radio with Whistler's EZ Scan software is something I was already familiar with and has been a breeze.

The only drawback I've encountered with the TRX-1 so far is with its ability to monitor a nearby simulcast P25 system, as compared to the PSR-800.  When it receives a good, strong signal, the TRX-1 seems to decode simulcast radio traffic more clearly than the '800, but it seems to be less sensitive in comparison.  I have yet to research and tweak the TRX-1's advanced digital settings, so this situation might improve with time and experimentation.

The TRX-1's face plate comes with a clear plastic protective cover which, makes the radio appear to be used and scratched.  The Scannermaster staff patiently explained how to remove the cover when I called them to complain about being sold a "used" radio.

2 of 5 Not Up to Expectations August 9, 2016

Well made radio, attractive features, but inexcusably inadequate manual forces user to figure out too many things for himself.  Frequency information on chip card, even after update, seems incomplete for agencies here -- (what I bought the radio for in the first place; many moved to trunks on new frequencies in recent years.)  So far,  does little for me that my old Bearcat hand-held won't do. Sensitivity and sound reproduction seem fine, but rapid cut-in/out on digital channels at times is annoying.  That problem may be in the way some trunks work.  I'm not sure yet -- but this is supposed to be a trunking-friendly radio!  And whoever decided that a radio does not need a Volume control knob is... WRONG.  Protective case is fine, but needed epic struggle to get it off the radio; almost injured both self and radio.  Will continue using TRX-1 to see if I can eventually get out of it what I bought it for.  So far, I haven't.  By the way, "Help" doesn't.

Bought this because of the new systems it could receive. Also bought a bcd436hp. Side by side, the Whistler reception is sub par except for low band. Great reception on low. However my departments are on 800 trunked, and if I have both locked on the dispatch tgid the bcd436 will work but the Whistler won't unless I hold it above my head.
